Stellenbosch Night Run as popular as ever
The annual Moore Night Run through the streets of Stellenbosch proved to be as popular as ever with more than 1400 entries this year
For the 7th successive year serious athletes battled it out in the 10 km race while fun runners and families with their children, babies in prams and dogs on leashes congregated in the shorter 5 km distance. A total of 630 athletes entered the 10 km event while the 5 km attracted 825 entries.
The two events which started at Stellenbosch Primary school on Wednesday evening, 23 October, at 18:30 followed a course through the streets of the surrounding neighbourhoods and ended on the school's sport grounds.
First across the line for his second successive win in the 10 km event was Deon-Lee Hendricks in a time of 29:50 while the first lady with also a successive win was Vicky Van Der Merwe in a time of 36:53. The second male was Amos Nyonga (29:52) and third male Raydon Balie (30:41) while the second lady was Mia Steytler (38:14) and third lady
Georgia Grobler (38:16).
In the 5km event the first male was Louw van der Heever (18:54) followed by Tamby-Dennis Muokwa (19:16) and Ga van Manen (19:22) in the third place. The first lady in the 5km was Landi Greyling (22:36) followed by Suzaan Hobson (22:46) and Conner Perfett (23:15) in the third place.
The Moore Night Run is one of the flagship events of the e'Bosch Heritage Project based in Stellenbosch. The Project is about creating a sustainable platform for the development of the talents, skills and passions of all the people of the greater Stellenbosch district. It is one of the most unique projects of its kind in South Africa in that it proactively engages all population, cultural and religious groups in all of its projects, using vehicles in the arena of debate, education, sport, nature and the arts. Die jaarlikse Moore Stephens Nagpretloop deur die strate van Stellenbosch op 17 Oktober het weereens sy gewildheid bewys met mintens 1300 deelnemers vanjaar. Terwyl ernstige atlete mekaar in die 10 km-wedloop aangepak het, was die korter 5km-afstand soos gewoonlik gewild onder jonk en oud en gesinne wat selfs hul babas en honde saamgebring het.
Die twee wedlope het op Woensdagaand, 17 Oktober om 18:30 by die Laerskool Stellenbosch begin en roetes deur die strate van die omliggende woonbuurtes begin om uiteindelik op die skool te sportvelde te eindig. Die 10km het 602 amptelike inskrywing gelok terwyl die 5km-afstand 699 inskrywings ontvang het. ‘n Nuwigheid vanjaar was die elektroniese chip op elke deelnemer se nommer wat tydhouding by einde baie vergemaklik het.
Die wenner in die 5km-afstand was Ashwell Clooco 18:51 met Jacques Wolmarans tweede in 21:17 en Albertus le Roux derde in 21:33. Die top dames was Suzan Hobson 25:06; Grace Sargeant 26:16; en Jana Wessels 26:32. In die 10k km-afstand was die manlike wenners Deon-Lee Hendricks 31:36; Raydon Bailie 31:45; en André Afrika 32:00 Die dameswenners was Vicky van der Merwe 38:22; Mia Steytler 38:47; en Lijan van Niekerk 40:45.

Moore Stephens Night Run • 11 October 2017 • Nagpretloop
This popular night race over two distances of 10km and 5km respectively, took place for the fifth year in succession, and started at Stellenbosch High School on Wednesday, 11 October.The 10km winner was Sibusiso Madikizela in a time of 30:50 minutes, with Danzil Paulse second at 31:30 and Victor Motsi third in 31:35. In the women's race, Thineke Fourie was first in 37; 43; second was Theresa Fourie in 38:42; and third Mia Steytler in 39:21. The 5km was won by Menzi Khoza in 21:03, second was Danya Engelbrecht in 28:29 and third Madelie Liebetrau in 30:27.

The purpose of this race is to involve all of the communities and surrounding villages to celebrate our heritage together. Moore Stephens also sponsors more than 50 children from the ANNA Foundation every year to take part in this event, " said Moore Stephens director Izak du Plessis.

Die nagpretloop was 'n groot sukses en is in perfekte weer afgehandel met 'n rekordgetal van 1450 deelnemers wat voltooi het naamlik 742 in die 10km en 708 in die 5km-afdeling. Die 10km is gewen deur Vuyolnethu Mbupushé van RSC Gugs in 'n tyd van 27min en 40 sekondes met Justin Friz van Ceres in 27:51 en Tsungai Mwanengeni van RCS Gugs in 28:18. Die eerste dame oor die eindstreep was Fortunate Chidziwo van Nedbank WP in 31:38; tweede was T Maxwell van Boxer in 31:42 en derde Sunel Jacobs van Maties in 34:52.
