e'Bosch Press Release 2 November 2021
Media release: November 2, 2021
A community stage production turns out as an excellent exercise in applied theatre
The Stellenbosch-based e’Bosch Heritage Project celebrated its 10th anniversary this past weekend in fitting style with a community stage production as an excellent exercise in applied theatre where the participants created their own stories based on their life experiences.
The actors in the production were the ten finalists gleaned from an extensive three-month community talent search in the greater Stellenbosch district whose presentation skills where then honed during workshops under expert guidance of music, drama and dance tutors.
“The growth of each one each and every one of these participants has been exponential and mind blowing considering that many of them haven’t been on a stage before or even performed to lines of dialogue yet,” says Robert Hindley their drama tutor and stage director.
“They managed to tie themselves together with absolute dedication and passion and create a unity of stories which imparted something very special about their communities, their households, and their souls. They managed to intertwine themselves in a fabulous way to create a unity and singular expression of what their talent means to them.
“They also taught me that in time and with enough courage and dedication to your craft you can start telling stories and the largest story to tell is the power of finding your own voice and identity,” says Robert.
This year the total number of entries received in the various categories were 35 for music, 17 for drama, and 12 for dancing as part of the annual e’Bosch Festival of Talents. The 10 chosen finalists then went through an extensive workshop programme to hone their presentation skills under the expert guidance of Robert Hindley (drama), Marthie Hauptfleisch (music), and Hurgen Cornelson (dancing). The finalists who performed in this production were Siba Qoba, Quintin Joubert, Asiphe Nicholas Feni, Drovigas Goshai, Nevrihelle Arnolds, Leshton-Lee du Plessis, Ronaldo van Rhyn, Lushan de Koker, Clayton Appolis, and Lee-Ron Maart. The project was in collaboration with the National Lotteries Commission and Wesgro.
The e’Bosch Festival of Talents is one of the 28 heritage projects staged by the Stellenbosch-based e’Bosch Heritage Project during September and October 2021 this year, all of them adapted to observe Covid-19 protocols.
This e’Bosch 10th Anniversary Gala Concert was presented to invited guests only from 11:00 to 13:00 on Saturday, October 30, at De Laer Hall in Stellenbosch but simultaneously streamed live on Facebook where it can still be watched at @eBoschHeritageProject. Finalists for the e’Bosch Festival of Talents are gearing up for their Gala Concert on Saturday, October 30, in Stellenbosch which will be streamed live as well.
The total number of entries received in the various categories this year was 35 for music, 17 for drama, and 12 for dancing. The 10 chosen finalists for the Gala Concert are currently hard at work honing their presentation skills through numerous workshops under the expert guidance of Robert Hindley (drama), Marthie Hauptfleisch (music), and Hurgen Cornelson (dancing). The finalists who will be performing at the Gala Concert are Siba Qoba, Quintin Joubert, Asiphe Nicholas, Drovigas Goshai, Nevrihelle Arnolds, Leshton-Lee du Plessis, Ronaldo van Rhyn, Lushian de Koker, Clayton Appolis, and Lee-Ron Maart
Winners will be selected in each category and then assisted to take their performances to some of the 14 Stellenbosch dorpies as an entrepreneurship endeavor and job creation program. The project is in collaboration with the National Lotteries Commission and Wesgro.
The e’Bosch Festival of Talents is one of the 28 community projects staged by the Stellenbosch-based e’Bosch Heritage Project during September and October this year, all of them adapted to observe Covid-19 protocols
“The e’Bosch Heritage Project, founded in 2011 with an inclusive birthday party of the 80th birthday of the Voortrekker youth movement, is a response to restoring the uninformed perceptions that we have of each other. The project’s goals are to get to know each other, appreciate each other and respect each other so that every dorpie of Stellenbosch is a place that is safe and welcoming to all. While human dignity is preserved and social inclusion fostered, a new culture grows by celebrating our traditions together. We proactively build bridges between all the social divides that permeate the South African society," says Dr. Mostert chair of the e’Bosch Board of Directors.
The e’Bosch Gala Concert will be for guests only on 15:00 Saturday, October 30, at Die Laer venue in Stellenbosch but can be watched live online on Facebook (@eBoschHeritageProject). Contact Carol Lakay at 079 857 5158 or [email protected] for more information.

Stellenbosch art project creates interactive space for its communities
A newly created art project by Michelle-Lize van Wyk and 12 collaborators of the REBUILD art group in conjunction with the e’Bosch Heritage Project is currently on display in Stellenbosch as part of a drive to unite the communities of the town.
Titled The Vol(kleur)vol / Full(colour)ful Project and inspired by the biblical ideal city the New Jerusalem and ideal garden the Garden of Eden, Michelle-Lize sees people however as the ultimate fulfillment of these colourful pictures.
“Besides the art being exhibited we have created a space for people from Stellenbosch’s different communities to meet and create together. This is an interactive space where people are encouraged to take photos of each other supplemented by props that we provide in front of the artworks of their liking. These photos will form part of an ongoing photo art project. We want to learn from each other, see each other and understand each other’s lives and perspectives better, growing together as a result,” says Michelle-Lize.
Her collaboration with the e’Bosch Heritage Project fits in ideally with this ten-year-old initiative whose ultimate aim is to empower communities by working together to create the surroundings in which businesses, people, and the environment can thrive.
“We appreciate Michelle-Lize and her team for these amazing creations and her idea of using art as an interactive platform where communities can interact and have fun together. This certainly complements the e’Bosch Heritage Project’s main goal which is to weave a trust fabric by getting people to know, appreciate, and respect each other. All in all, we want to create an environment that celebrates everyone’s human dignity and where everyone feels welcome and at home,” says Dr. Sias Mostert, chair of the e’Bosch Board of Directors.
The Stellenbosch-based e’Bosch Heritage Project now in its tenth year of existence is staging a total of 28 community projects during September and October this year, all of them adapted to observe Covid-19 protocols.
The Vol(kleur)vol / Full(colour)ful Project is currently on display at the NPK Building on the corner of Plein and Ryneveld Streets in Stellenbosch after which it will tour some of the 14 “dorpies” of Stellenbosch with invited audiences in each location. Contact Michelle-Lize for more information at 082 768 6750 or [email protected].

“The main goal of the e’Bosch Heritage Project is to foster social cohesion by celebrating our cultural diversity together and create inclusive economic growth opportunities for all. We want to keep the momentum going for this ideal which we started in 2011 and therefore had to come up with some creative solutions to stay safe within the constraints imposed by Covid-19 regulations in 2021," says Dr. Sias Mostert, chair of the e’Bosch Board of Directors.

The Mayor/Rector’s Award Ceremony (date to be confirmed)
In honor of the ten-year existence of the e’Bosch Heritage Project, this year's awards will be for those who made an extraordinary contribution to Stellenbosch's cultural infrastructure and institutions by cultivating and developing heritage customs and institutions for the benefit of all in Stellenbosch over the past ten years. The deadline for nominations is 30 September and submitted to [email protected].
e’Bosch Wellness Health Place-Making (September- December 2021)
The culture of Place-Making was introduced in the quiet of the Covid-19 pandemic in collaboration with the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport as a program to celebrate the culture of healthy living and foster safe places for recreation. It aims to open up public spaces to assist people with physical exercise and general recreation. With the Covid-19 pandemic, there is an added benefit of improving immune systems and ultimately their physical, mental, and emotional wellness. The program is hosted at Van der Stel sports grounds and is accessible from 8:00 to 10:00, Monday to Friday.
Other highlights of e'Bosch 2021 projects for the remainder of the year also include a pilgrimage along the Eerste River on the weekend of 22 – 24 October; a Petanque competition for teams from the 14 dorpies on 2 October; the Interfaith Conference on Shared Values on 20 October, the e'Bosch FriendsCUP Games at Rhenish High School on 22 October; the e'Bosch U-11 Soccer Tournament Final at Kayamandi Stadium on 23 October.
The e’Bosch Heritage Project also proactively builds bridges between all the social divides that permeate the South African society," says Dr. Mostert.

Mostert.
