TEMA: 2024 OLIMPIESE SPELE!
3 Junie 2024

Training Sessions for June / July 2024 School Holiday Program is in full swing!
-By Stacy Swartz
31 Mei 2024
The e’Bosch Heritage Project in collaboration with StellCare, Stellenbosch Academy of Sports, aQuelle, Hungry Lion and Jannie Mouton Foundation, is preparing for yet another school holiday program. Community leaders from the 14 dorpies of Stellenbosch are collaborating to provide children between the ages of 6 and 18 with healthy and constructive activities during the June / July holidays. The program will start on the 17th of June until the 6th of July.
Two training sessions in preparation for this program have already been concluded.
25 May 2024, 09h00 till 14h00 - Recreation and Sport - at De Laer, Voortrekker Hall
01 June 2024, 09h00 till 14h00 - Music and Movement - at Markotter Sportsfield Clubhouse
This year’s program will be centered around the Olympic games and its values, namely excellence, respect, and friendship. The activities of each dorpies’ programs will lead up to the main Olympic Showcase event, on the 6th of July in the Stellenbosch Town Hall.
Through art-and-craft activities, the participants will have a chance to express their creativity and will then have to make flags, costumes, food, etc, all corresponding with their specific country, over the three weeks. Sports and recreation will also be included, where they will be equipped with character development skills. Netball, 5-a-side soccer, and Chess tournaments will happen on the 2nd of July, in the third week of the program at Jamestown Sportsfield. Drama also plays a huge role in the program, the groups will have to create a short drama, corresponding with their country.
On Fridays, it will be Compassion Day, where participants will do an outreach to a stakeholder in their community who needs support and recognition. The objective is to recognise the roles these organisations and facilities play in their communities. These facilities can be local old-age homes or any institution of community care.
The organizing of such a big program requires a lot of teamwork and collaboration. Therefore, facilitators will receive four-week training, which includes drama, recreation and sport, music and movement, and arts and crafts. All Youth workers, Sunday School teachers, ECDs, and Creativity teachers can benefit from the training and are invited to participate. Registration for the training is free of charge, as the purpose is to ensure not only the children's safety during the program but also that their key capabilities, such as positive identities and values grow.
The third and fourth training sessions will take place, as follows:
08 June 2024, 09h00 till 14h00 - Drama at Markotter Sportsfield Clubhouse.
15 June 2024, 09h00 till 14h00 - Arts and Craft at 116 Dorp Street, Stellenbosch
If you want to enroll for the training sessions or need more information on the programs, contact Carol Lakay on Whatsapp at 0615954085 or email [email protected]
